Am I pregnant? If you’ve recently had unprotected sex (or even protected sex) and your period hasn’t started yet, there’s a chance you’re pregnant.

Early pregnancy symptoms

Every pregnancy is different, just like every woman, but these are some common symptoms:

• A missed or late period
• Tender or swollen breasts
• Frequent urination
• Nausea or vomiting
• Fatigue or increased tiredness
• Mild abdominal cramping
• Food cravings or aversions
• Mood Swings

You may not be pregnant

Believe it or not, it’s possible to have some of these symptoms and not be pregnant. Hormonal changes, stress, or rapid weight gain or loss are just some of the reasons for a change in your normal menstrual cycle.

Irregular periods could signify polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal disorder. If you’re a dancer, gymnast, or runner, a change in your cycle could be due to high physical activity levels.

Up to 30% of known pregnancies will not carry to term. Of those that will miscarry, 80% will happen in the first 12 weeks. Your body may still experience pregnancy symptoms days and even weeks afterward.

You can get a false-positive result on a pregnancy test. The only way to know if you’re definitely pregnant is by getting an ultrasound.

At-home pregnancy tests

Many over-the-counter pregnancy tests are accurate. The problem with using them at home is the tests are often taken too soon, there’s sometimes user error, or the expiration date has passed.

If you’ve taken an at-home pregnancy test, let us confirm your results with one of our no-cost, lab-quality tests administered by a member of our staff.

It never hurts to get a second opinion. Other offices in the area charge for their pregnancy testing, but at ABC Women’s Health & Ultrasound Center, you can get tested and never receive a bill.
